Harry Strafford (b. 2004, Brooklyn, NY) is a multidisciplinary artist and creative director whose practice involves videography, photography, graphic design, and architectural design. For Strafford, growing up in New York City in a multicultural household sharpened his awareness of how layered environments shape identity and expression. Rather than confining himself to a single definition, he came to understand identity as relational and contextual. This perspective informs how he approaches art and design by attending to the cultural and historical forces that shape people’s experiences of space, objects, and images.
At Middlebury College, Strafford is majoring in Architectural Studies with a double minor in French and Studio Art. He works as a Photo Studio Assistant and does freelance photography and DJ work for various clubs and organizations on campus. During his time studying art history abroad in Paris at Sorbonne Université, Strafford took a video art course which became a turning point prompting him to think critically about narrative and spatial experience. For his architectural senior thesis, he chose to design a museum dedicated to video art, structuring galleries around the medium’s spatial and technological demands. His studio art thesis furthers this inquiry through creating a video installation conceived for a gallery setting.
Beyond the classroom, Strafford developed an independent visual practice, collaborating with musicians to create music videos, album artwork, and rollout campaigns. Music remains central to his creative process, often guiding the pacing, tone, and structure of his work. He continues to collaborate with artists to shape visual identities that resonate with their sound and sensibility. After graduating, he plans to expand this practice, both by advancing his own visual language and working as a creative director.
